Dr. Francis Solga received his Bachelor of Science degree from Muhlenberg College and Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from Temple University in Philadelphia, where he was elected to Omicron Kappa Upsilon Honor Society.  He was awarded the prestigious International Dental Award for Academic and Clinical Excellence. 

After graduation from Temple Dental School, he joined the U.S. Army Dental Corps, where he received advanced training in all the dental specialties.  He interned at Letterman General Hospital, San Francisco.  Traveling extensively with the military, he became chief dental officer at the 5th U.S. Army headquarters, Fort Sheridan, Illinois.

 Following military duty, he returned to Temple University’s post-graduate Orthodontic residency program, receiving his graduate degree in orthodontics in 1974.  He established his practice in Schuylkill Haven later that year.  His post-graduate thesis, “The Effects of Malocclusion on the Body Image and Self Concept During Orthodontic Treatment,” was used by the American Association of Orthodontists (AAO) to express an added benefit of orthodontic treatment in improving dental and facial cosmetics and self-concept and self-esteem of the individual.

 Dr. Solga is a member of the American Association of Orthodontists.  He is also a member of the American Dental Association, the Mid-Atlantic Society of Orthodontists, and the Schuylkill Dental Society, where he has held multiple offices and co-chaired Children’s Dental Health Month activities.  Dr. Solga continues to further his knowledge by taking continuing education courses.

Dr. Solga is a resident of Orwigsburg.  He enjoys movies, theater, concerts, and art museums.  He is an avid golfer, skier, tennis player and enjoys traveling and hiking.  Dr. Solga and his son, Steven, climbed 19,340 feet to Uhuru peak, the highest point of Mount Kilimanjaro in Africa.

An active member of the community, Dr. Solga is a member of the Schuylkill Haven Lions and enjoys the Future Farmers of America activities at the local fairs.
